Assam Agricultural University was founded in the year 1968 under the Act of Assam Agricultural University.
The objective of this university is to give education to people in agriculture as well as other allied areas of learning.
This institute is located at Jorhat in Assam and is a public university that has affiliation to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
The jurisdiction of this University covers the entire Assam with regard to education, research, teaching and extension in agriculture and allied sciences.
Educational Streams
There are numerous courses in several disciplines available done in eight semesters that extends to minimum four years comprising the experience of rural agricultural work program.
The program for Science & Animal Husbandry (BV) is of 10 semesters and this includes a minimum internship of 5 years, eight semesters is for B F Science accounting to minimum 4 years and B Science is with eight semesters and this includes rural agricultural work experience for 4 years.
There are specialized courses available in Tea Husbandry & Technology in B Sc degree program (Agri) as one of the elective subjects and in the M Sc degree program (Agri) so that they can offer professionally trained as well as technically qualified personnel to handle various positions in the tea industry as well as its related organization.
These courses cover three areas of study in Tea engineering process, Tea Husbandry and Economics as well as General Administration that includes Tea Trade as well as Legal Matters.
M Sc (Agri) comprises of four semesters with the duration of 2 years and M Sc (Sericulture) is for four semesters with the same duration of minimum 2 years. The MV Sc program module is for four year semesters also with minimum 2 years duration. M Sc (H Sc) gets completed in four semesters.
Ph D courses in Home Science or Agriculture or Veterinary Science are of six semesters and takes 3 years minimum to complete.
Facilities
There are 2 extensive libraries under this University. The network of Assam Agricultural University library has considerably widened with the addition of colleges, research stations, etc. Canteen facilities are available for the students to have their lunch and snacks comfortably. |
