Tezpur University was established in the year 1994, and it came owing to the Act of Parliament.
This University campus is sited in the East of Tezpur headquarters of Sonitpur, the district of Assam, at Napaam.
The main aim of this university is to offer employment oriented as well as interdisciplinary courses.
These courses are conducted by the university and have direct relevance to this region.

Educational Streams
Tezpur University conducts diploma, certificate, degree and post degree level courses in diverse fields. These courses are completely on the basis of semesters.
This university promotes research in particular areas that are of special as well has direct relevance to the area and in other emerging areas in the fields of Science and Technology.
Tezpur University offers admission to the students in customary and professional courses in different domains. Programs in PhD are offered in various departments, but for the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sociology and Food Processing Technology.
The B Tech Program selections are made on the ranking based in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) that is conducted by CBSE. However, the admissions to the post graduate degree, certificate programs and diploma are made on the performance of the Entrance Examination as well as conducted interview.
Facilities
This university has facilities such as hostels for men in the name Nilachal, Brahmaputra and Charaideo. Three women’s hostels are Dhansiri, Bordoichila and Pragiyotika. The facilities also include a central library having over 42,000 volumes of e-journals and print collection.
The other facilities include health center, guest house and playgrounds. A Training and Placement cell is facilitated to help students in accomplishing their career opportunities.
