Magadh University was incepted in the year 1962 at Bodhgaya and is well known to be the largest among the Indian universities.
This is a state university and is recognized by UGC, the University Grant Commission.
It was established by the act of 1976 of Bihar and Magadh University is now spread over an area including districts such as Patna, Nawada, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nalanda and Aurangabad.
The university has shown good progress by developing horizontally as well as vertically right from the time of its inception.
It has 4 post graduation departments, 85 affiliated Colleges, 44 Constituent and over 2 lakh students.
History
Magadh University was founded in the year 1962 by the act of the Bihar Government. It gained popularity as the renowned educationist and Late Satyendra Narayan Sinha, the then Education Minister, played a vital role in the institution of this university.
This university began its functioning for official purposes from the Red House of Gaya and then the two rented buildings, Dora Kothi and Jamuar Kothi were used for teaching. Initially, teaching was done for subjects namely, Economics, English, Geography, Mathematics, Hindi, History and Philosophy.
Educational Streams
The courses offered in this University are both in depth and variety. They also offer conventional courses, besides many professional or vocational courses such as Business Administration, Environmental Science, Computer Application, Tourism & Travel Management, Journalism & Mass Communication, Counseling & Rehabilitation are as well conducted in diverse constituent or affiliated colleges of this University.
Distance Education department offers professional as well as vocational courses for its students constrained to jobs and owing to this are unable to continue with regular courses. They also constantly upgrade facilities in research encouraging students to opt for programs based on research.

Facilities include accommodation for boys and girls individually. Central library of this university has plenty of manuscripts, books and various other study materials. The various departments include facilities such as healthcare, computer laboratories, post office and banking services within the campus.
They also facilitate playing modern sports as a sports complex is sited within the campus and is appropriate for indoor and outdoor games with athletic events. |
