Nalanda Open University is located in the Bihar state and is the only University that is appropriate for imparting education particularly through the distance learning of system.
Nalanda Open University was instituted in the year 1987 by the Government of Bihar ordinance.
This University acquired its name after the famous ancient India, Nalanda University.
This University is well recognized by the Distance Education Council and also by the UGC University Grants Commission.
History
Nalanda Open University emerged in 1987 with the Bihar Government. Later in 1995, the university Act was passed by Bihar Legislature. This University has acquired its name after the Nalanda University.
Educational Streams
Nalanda Open University offers opportunities in education to people who are incapable of taking up regular and formal education, but are desirous to elevate their educational qualifications as well as to acquire knowledge in many fields of learning.
This university conducts intermediate, certificate, graduate as well as master degree courses in assorted fields. The eligibility for enrolment offers complete flexibility in pursuing higher education, regarding course choice, learning methods, age of entry, conduct of examination and operation of programs make this university the most favorable for the learners as they are not forced.

NOU is functioning currently from Patna, where it has a well maintained camp office. There is an examination centre within the campus for its students. This library is well equipped with over 30,000 books on diverse subjects. The campus also has a computer center offering internet access.
