Maharshi Dayanand University is located at Rohtak and is a public university. It was founded in 1976 and earned the named after the noted saint Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati.

Maharshi Dayanand University was founded through a legislative assembly Act of Haryana with a specific aim of establishing as well as incorporating a teaching as well a supporting affiliating university to be sited at Rohtak.

Today it functions with 77 academic programs, 13 faculties and 27 post graduate departments. There are various designing and developing courses in diverse disciplines under 66 boards.
The main campus has 2 satellite campuses located at Rewari is offering post graduate programs and the Gurgaon campus is the National Law college.
The affiliating university comprises of 126 colleges and institutions in various disciplines. There are professional institutions at Rohtak comprising of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences featuring a 1000 bed hospital, and the post graduate College of Medicine specializes in 21 disciplines. This University also has a Medical College at Agroha, and at Rohtak a Dental College.
The distance education is offered in this campus and there are professional and regular courses as well.
