The institute is an established center for doctoral work and engineering, they conducted research such as science discipline. Like other colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, admission in NIT can be taken by qualifying in the college entrance examination or known as All India engineering entrance examination (AIEEE).
The exam is consists of 3 sections such as psychics mathematics and chemistry. The students from this college are well discipline because of the highly competent educators and discipline faculty members. Unlike other colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, NIT provides boarding facilities for the students in the campus itself.
