University of Kashmir is located in Srinagar at Hazratbal. This university is recognized by UGC, the University Grant Commission, and is also a member of AIU, the Association of Indian Universities.

History
The University of Kashmir was established in the year 1965, immediately after the separation of Jammu & Kashmir University into two separate universities as the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir.
This University came owing to humble origins after Independence and the State Government established this institute for conducting examinations at Srinagar.
