Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology is well known as SKUAST and is sited in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India.
This university acquired its name after Jenab Sheikh Mohammad and this was founded to pay tribute to the patriotic leader of Kashmir.
He was famous and was known as 'Sher-e-Kashmir'. This institution was established under the State Legislature Act.
This university is well recognized by UGC, the University Grants Commission and is also a member of AIU, The Association of Indian Universities.
History
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology was founded in 1982. Initially, this university had its authority intact on Jammu & Kashmir and it’s headquartering in Srinagar at Shalimar.
In 1998-99, one more amendment was done as per the Act 1982 and this authority of the university was limited to the Kashmir territory. Consequently, an individual Jammu division was established.
Educational Streams
Sher-e-KashmirUniversity offers several courses for bachelors, masters as well as doctorate levels in Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Sericulture and Sheep Husbandry.
The courses conducted at the levels of bachelor’s include B. Tech in Agriculture Engineering and B.Sc for Forestry, Agriculture, Sericulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences .Masters level courses comprise of M Sc in Agricultural Statistics, Veterinary Sciences, Forestry, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Sericulture and Fisheries.
Doctoral courses are offered by the Sher-e-Kashmir University and this includes the fields of Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture and Sericulture. The university functions following the Model Act of State Agricultural Universities that was developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. This institution follows courses with academic session having two semesters.
Facilities
This educational institution offers library facility that is well equipped with books and journals to enhance awareness and knowledge. Laboratories are well maintained and workshops are regularly conducted so that the students are updated in their relevant fields. The university offers security facility and field trainings as well as educational tours are organized to impart knowledge about diverse farming situations.
