Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is a university located in the Udhampur District at Katra of Jammu and Kashmir.
This university was established in the year 1999 as a technical and residential university in the aim of offering scientific as well as technical education of highest standards.
This university provides science as well as management based engineering of the finest quality in subjects featuring contemporary importance.
This institution has four Colleges comprising of twelve Schools that promote six undergraduate and nine postgraduate programs and as well offers courses in Ph.D. and Post doctoral research fellowship programs.
History
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University was founded through J&K Legislature act as an autonomous and fully residential as well as expert technical university of excellence that offers grant as well as continuing support from Katra of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
It has unique feature as it was inaugurated in the year 2004 by the President of India and the first convocation was addressed in the year 2008 by the Prime Minister of India.
Educational Streams
At present, the university is providing with courses in under graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Sciences and Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, B. Architecture and courses in Post Graduate include Business, Economics, Mathematics and Energy Management besides Ph.D.
The education stream of this university is based on the IITs academic pattern in teaching and evaluation. The courses for undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Engineering and Sciences and Management or Arts are imparted to the learners under the strict guidance of well qualified faculty members. However, the admissions are based on AIEEE ranking, scores of CAT or MAT, written tests, group discussions and interviews.
This University is creating extensive cooperation with the industry for economic growth within the area and country. There are on going research projects done with the assistance of supporting institutions.

The facilities take care of all the learners as it is featured with hostels, library, sports facilities and laboratories, besides there are professional courses as well to inculcate work.
