Karnataka state women’s University was instituted in 2003 August at Bijapur and is devoted towards women’s education.
There are twelve women colleges from various northern Karnataka districts affiliated to this university. However, there are two campuses sited in Torvi and City.

Karnataka state women’s university empowers women by offering and thereby aiming for academic achievement, creativity, interaction, research, personality development, collaboration and leadership qualities.
This university has founded 47 affiliated colleges, 6 post graduate departments and a B.Ed college to satisfy the objective of becoming a powerful women’s university.
The women’s university imparts teaching in humanities, science, education as well as teaching, besides offering courses for professional education such as Mass communication, Journalism, Business Administration, Information science and library.
The aim of developing self-confidence in women and providing information, counseling and guidance to women overcomes gender disparities. These courses assist people involved in NGO management, women and child welfare as well as education field.
The university offers dual programs that enable the candidates in obtaining PG diploma as well as certificates while pursuing the standard PG course.
This university has a well-developed unique curriculum offering the students a wonderful opportunity to acquire additional training in various subjects namely Women and Health, Media Studies, Human Resources, Communicative English, NGO Management, Yoga Studies and Business Kannada.
Facilities
This university facilitates women with three hostels and the required infrastructure, besides perfect security. They have own mess taken care by lady wardens. The library of this university maintains enormous collection of periodicals, books, back volumes, etc.
The e-mail and internet facilities are offered in the library. The health center caters to the health care of these students. The other amenities comprise of student welfare, transport, sports, computer centre and extra curricular activities.
