National Institute of Technology, Calicut is also referred to as NITC. This is a government funded technical university founded by the Indian Parliament act.
It is located in Chathamangalam sited nearly 22km towards the north-east of Calicut (Kozhikode), in Kerala city, India.
Earlier, this institute was known as Calicut Regional Engineering College.
This institute is among the other twenty institutes that are instituted in each major Indian state by the Indian Government to foster the national integration through technical education imparted to the students. National Institute is one of the institutions to have supercomputer on its own.

The academics of National Institute of Technology, Calicut has various departments in Engineering, Allied Department, Schools, Centers and Specialized courses.
Facilities
NITC is a residential institution having 12 hostels facilitated to accommodate students. The ladies and boys hostels are differentiate by alphabets such as the boys hostels are from A to G, PGI and PGII, while the ladies hostels are A, B and C.
Each room is three-seated, but due to increase in students four are accommodated in each room. The first year B.Tech students are accommodated in A hostel, while the B hostel is given to II year B.Tech students. C hostel has III year B.Tech students and the D and F hostels are allocated for B.Tech Final year students.
MCA and M.Tech students stay in G hostel and the PGI and PGII hostels are given to post graduate students as well as research scholars.
The hostels are facilitated with individual mess and the food served in each hostel varies ranging from cosmopolitan to non-vegetarian, vegetarian, Kerala food, North Indian and Andhra.
Students are given the liberty their choice of food at any mess. The ladies hostels also have two cosmopolitan messes and they have facilities such as gymnasium, indoor shuttle court, cooperative store extension counter and mini canteen.
Their facilities also include their central library that has over 100,000 books and this is an immense technical library that subscribes over 200 print journals. Digital library houses online resources, and the network offers access to proceedings, electronic theses, databases, dissertations as well as online courses. This library is an integral part of the consortium INDEST that aims at networking.
