Tata Institute of Social Sciences is a premier institute located in Deonar, Mumbai.
This was founded in 1936 and the main objective of this institute was to acquire academic excellence.
This institute influenced social research and social work education in India. Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School in 1944 was renamed as Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
In 1964 it acquired to be a deemed university and became a significant landmark.
Tata Institute is continuously expanding in its infrastructure and educational programs. The social as well as educational system is well responded and this institute has reached beyond the social work education.
This deemed university offered post graduate programs in social work and diversified the activities. This institute never restricted its directives to that of a conventional university, but it promoted the social welfare, justice and had participatory development.
This institute offered value based education for human service professions as well as social work. The dissemination of knowledge, intervention through various projects and training, contribution to welfare and social policy at state, international as well as national levels and responding to all calamities through various relief programs and disaster management.

Structure
This Institute features 5 Schools in association with 4 independent Centers. These provide support to research, teaching, field action and dissemination activities. The administrative structure features accounts, hostels, academic, personnel, maintenance and various other departments.
