Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology is one of the institutes of National Importance.
This institute was instituted in June 1960, and was earlier known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering.
This was one of the first six regional engineering colleges that were set up in the aim of promoting technical education in diverse parts of the country.
This institute acquired its name after the distinguished engineer as well as scientist Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the recipient of Bharat Ratna.
This educational institute was awarded the Deemed university status in 2002 and came to be known as Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology.
Infrastructure
The campus of this institute covers nearly 214 acres and is at a distance of nearly 8km from the Nagpur Railway station.
This campus is opulent in its fauna and flora and the laboratories as well as departments are within the campus. This institute is prominent for its quality improvement centers and the laboratories are facilitated with extensive testing facilities.
Departments
The departments available are many and to name a few are applied chemistry, applied mechanics, applied mathematics, civil engineering, applied physics, mining engineering department, and many more. Aeronautics engineering is also an addition in the recent years.
Facilities
The facilities of this institute include two hostels for girls and seven hostels for boys. All the hostels are well-equipped and offer the best internet facilities.
Housekeeping, sports and entertainment are also offered, besides the non-teaching as well as teaching staffs are provided with residential accommodation within the campus.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology offers one of the oldest library having hundred thousand books. However, besides the existing library, a digital library is facilitated to access websites and online journals. The campus is networked with fiber optic cables.
This institute campus has a Computer Center, Auditorium, Sporting Facilities, Canteen, Hospital, ATM of State Bank of India, Coffee shop, Post & Telegraph Center and a co-op store.
A MiG-23 fighter aircraft is decommissioned recently inside the campus. |
