North Eastern Hill University is well known to be a Central University that caters to the requirements of north eastern states in India.
This university is headquartered in Shillong and has the territorial jurisdiction spread over the complete Meghalaya state.
The main objective of this university is to cater the Tribals of this state as it reserves nearly 50% of its seats for the state tribals.
Besides the main campus sited at Shillong, this university has opened one more university at Tura housing with Departments of Education, English and Garo.
Recently, Rural Development as well as Agricultural Production department is added to the already existing three Tura departments.

Educational Streams
North-Eastern Hill University has nearly 28 departments as well as 4 centers of studies under its schools and an under graduate college. The science and technology departments offer the five science and geography departments with financial assistance for infrastructural development in higher academics.
Apart from these grants as well as aids, there are research projects awarded to members of the faculty of this university notably by the DST, CSIR, DAE, ICSSR, UGC, Ford Foundation, DBT and MoEF.
