Utkal University is instituted in 1943 and is one of the oldest universities existing in India.
The existing campus that comprises of the teaching-cum-affiliating university is sited in Bhubaneshwar at Vani Vihar.
This university offers extensive listing of all the colleges in affiliation under its jurisdiction.
The university motto is 'Satyam Param Dheemahi'. This institute is recognized by UGC and is as well the member of AIU, the Association of Indian Universities.
History
Utkal University was founded after the university bill passing in the year 1943 in the Orissa Legislative Assembly.
This act was repealed in 1966 and a new Utkal University came in the year 1967 into effect. Initially, the Utkal University was functioning from the Ravenshaw College, prior to its own campus that is situated at Bhubaneswar, and is known by the name Vani Vihar.

Utkal University is an immense educational institution conducting higher education streams through Bachelors, Masters, Diploma, M Phil or PH D programs in extensive branches of the academic areas.
Apart from this as a full-time education, the of Distance Education is an institution of the same university also founded with the aim of offering quality education to majority of working as well as adult learners who can pursue their education and also impart to various sections of the society via Distance or as well on the continuing education mode.
