The state of Tamil Nadu nestles in the southern part of the Indian peninsula and is home to several tourist attractions.

From natural resources to architectural edifices, Tamil Nadu is considered as one of the finest destinations in the world. UNESCO has acclaimed three spots as World Heritage Sites.

Rich in traditions and culture, the state has several empires in its history including the Chola Empire and the Vijayanagar Empire, which lasted for three centuries.

At present, plains and undulating hills surround Tami Nadu where there are numerous reserves and minerals such as garnet, lignite and magnesite. The state also contributes 15% of salt to the total production of the country of India. In July 1 of 2008, it was estimated that 44% of its dense population live in urban areas, the highest rate in India.

The state has provided growth in literacy for the past years. There are 19 notable universities and 1, 400 colleges in Tamil Nadu. That being said, the opportunity for education is indeed widely spread.

Presently, there are 250 engineering colleges in the state and around 30, 000 engineering students graduate every year, making Tamil Nadu the largest state producing engineering graduates. As a result, many software corporations start their business in this part of India. There are government-funded institutions as well as private colleges in Tamil Nadu.

Undergraduate courses as well as postgraduate courses are being offered in these colleges. Examples of undergraduate courses are Civil Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. The Government College of Technology in Coimbatore offers all of the mentioned undergraduate courses as well as Ph.D. Programs for each department.

Those who want to enroll in this prestigious school should take and pass the entrance exam. The passing students alone are accepted. Postgraduate students are admitted through passing the exam also though they can be enrolled if they have good Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering grades.

Other colleges in Tamil Nadu include The College of Engineering, Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering and Technology, Alpha Arts and Science College, Bharathidasan Institute of Managementand the Christian Medical College and Hospital. The latter yielded some of the world’s remarkable individuals including Ajit Varki, Jessie Harry Michael and Harry Thangaraj, the assistant director of MIHR. The said institution is considered as one of the colleges in Tamil Nadu and established the first neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery departments in India.

Aside from studying, there are other activities for the learners in the state. They can join clubs like fine arts, film and orchestra club. The colleges in Tamil Nadu provides a fun learning experience.
