One of the universities in Tamil Nadu is the Annamalai University, which was founded in the year 1928. Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai established this university in order to help develop the education status in the state of Tamil Nadu.
First starting with only seven departments, Annamalai University grew to nearly 48 departments, making this institution an upright and well-reputable one. Only a few associations in the country of India have faculties situated in the same campus and Annamalai University is one of them. A unitary, schooling and residential kind of university, Annamalai is certainly a good choice.
Another is the Anna University, which has existed since September 4, 1978. Also a unitary type, this offers higher studies in Technology, Engineering and related Sciences that can ultimately aid in the needs and issues of the community.
Extending over 100 hectares, the campus is located at the southern part of Madras City. More than 200 Engineering colleges are present in the university and all of them are self-supporting colleges. There are also government colleges from the Anna University, which are scattered in numerous parts of Tamil Nadu.
This institution of higher education presents undergraduate and post-graduate activities in engineering and technology subjects. They promote research and cooperation with academic and business communities.
Other universities in Tamil Nadu also include Bharathidasan University, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha and the Indian Institute of Technology. The latter was established in the year 1958 as a part of the Indo-German agreement. Professor Humayun Kabir, who was the Union Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs, officially launched this organization the following year.
Highly regarded as one of the state’s best universities, IIT has presented the Doctor of Science and Doctor of Technology honorary degrees to many distinguished individuals such as the former Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hans Dietrich Genscher in 1973 and the former chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Raja Ramana in 1983.
The universities in Tamil Nadu have developed and evolved a great deal in the past few years. It is foreseen that the state will indeed intensify its desire to disseminate education to its people.
