Indian Institute of Technology is located in Kanpur and is now commemorating its golden jubilee.
This is today one of the high ranking technological institutes that primarily focuses research in science and engineering, besides teaching undergraduates.
The campus sprawls over approximately 4.3 square km area towards the north-west of the city. 2 year Postgraduate and 5 year undergraduate dual degree courses in engineering are offered.

Its library has over 3, 00,000 volumes and periodicals to 1000, however, yearly there is an addition of nearly 4500 books on an average. The computer centre features Linux terminals and Windows NT terminals that help the students academically and for recreation. Besides, there are around 50 SUN workstations for handling crucial computational tasks.
Student fiesta
Indian Institute of Technology conducts International events such as Techkriti, the technology and business festival in February and Antaragni, a cultural festival in October. These are the popular IIT events and the other Intra IIT events include Galaxy, Voila, Josh, Crescendo, Olympus, Deepshikha, Deepotsav, Deepanjali, and more.
Gymkhana
Gymkhana for students is an elected body and is the hub for all inter-college and hostel activities and comprises of the various councils headed by the president followed by many secretaries in charge of smaller departments.
Own publications
IIT students bring out a newspaper called Vox Populi, monthly, besides a magazine Meander and a magazine called NERD highlighting science and technology.
