Bengal engineering and Science University is situated in Howrah at Shibpur and is known as BESU.

This university was earlier known as Bishop’s college and was renamed as Calcutta Civil Engineering College in 1856.
Later on between the years 1865 to 1879, it functioned as Presidency College and eventually acquired the name Bengal engineering college in 1921.

Courses
Bengal engineering and Science University presently offers education in undergraduate courses of B.Arch or B.E degree. The regular degree courses are for 8 semesters, but the architecture course is for 10 semesters.
This university conducts technical discipline courses to various master level courses and many Ph D programs are offered as well. This university courses are approved by the AICTE and they have post graduate diploma course in Bio-informatics, besides MBA.
